There needs to be a wealth tax in the upcoming UK budget

The tax system there is unfair and unbalanced. Wealth in the UK is concentrated in the hands of roughly 20,000 people while millions cannot afford to live. A 1% tax on assets over £10 million will not even be noticed, but it will make a huge difference to the public coffers.

And on that topic, energy bills. Why is there VAT on them? It's cold in the UK now and so many people this winter will have to choose between heating and eating, while paying an extra 5% on energy bills that they're already struggling to pay.

How does that make sense, especially if you take flying. No VAT on flights. So we have a necessity that has VAT and a luxury that doesn't. Half of those in the UK don't fly, and approximately 10% of those that do take approximately half of all flights. Holidays are luxuries. Energy is not.

Fix the tax system.

Last year the treasury received 1.1 trillion in tax and any government should be able to run a country with that amount of money....they dont need to put up taxes

@Platinum

It's never enough, because the politicians have to promise more and more to get themselves elected and re-elected, and end up being multi-millionaires themselves.

@Thinkerbell you are so right....

@Platinum We have recently emerged from a pandemic, during which the taxpayer supported jobs and businesses with billions of pounds. That needs to be paid for. So does Brexit, which has shrunk our export markets. We also have an ageing population who expect taxpayer funded pensions and universal healthcare. If you don't want to pay more tax, choose which of these popular but expensive policies should not have been pursued.

@SunshineGirl its not taxpayers money paying pensions its pensioners working and paying tax for 50 years +

@Platinum They are not. State pensions are a socialised welfare benefit, not a regulated pension scheme. They are entirely dependent upon tax revenue continuing to flow. That is why the retirement age keeps getting pushed upwards. More people living for longer places a strain on the working population which funds the system.
