@SunshineGirl What about free school meals for children, and free school uniforms. So the money actually goes on the children.

@jefferson Children still need to wear clothes, which still cost money. By having a single standard it is easier to target help to poorer families (through bulk buying or school swap shops) without stigmatising individual children.

@peterlee Free meals are widely available for families on universal credit. I don't think abolishing a school uniform would be much help (see above).
