Trump Administration admits the immigration crackdown is causing food prices to soar.

"The Labor Department warned in an obscure document filed with the Federal Register last week that ‘the near total cessation of the inflow of illegal aliens’ is threatening ‘the stability of domestic food production and prices for U.S. consumers,'” The Washington Post’s Lauren Kaori Gurley reported.

“‘Unless the Department acts immediately to provide a source of stable and lawful labor, this threat will grow’ with increased funding for immigration enforcement from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Labor Department said in the Federal Register, which is the place where all proposed rules are recorded for the public to view and comment.”

So you think that paying farm workers slave wages is a good thing so your cost of tomatoes doesn't go up?

@hippyjoe1955

I think they should be paid decent wages (certainly above the minimum wage). But it is the sudden disappearance of so many workers that has caused the spike in wages for replacement workers.

Same thing with grocery store workers. They should get paid more, too.

But consolidation of grocery chains thru mergers has also caused a spike in prices due to lack of competition.

@beckyromero The gubberment should be in control of everything, that'll fix things

"In control of" and "regulate" are two very different things.

@beckyromero Therefore the point of your post is silly since you are just trying to use it to shame Trump without really looking at root causes. I was talking to a fellow from the US who suggested that Canada should hire a bunch of Mexicans to to a job since they wouldn't need to get paid as much. He was informed that here in Canada there are labour standards that you must meet. Proper recompense being one of those standards.
