This came up on Secular Talk and I think Kyle is right. Blue states should consider a national divorce. Can you honestly still present a single

upside to dragging around MAGA Trumpistan? I mean shit even Florida's beaches will be gone with coral reef collapse in a few decades.

Is dragging these people along for some national nostalgia still worth it?

Sadly, while I agree on the principle that a drowning man never saved anyone. This will only end in a civil war.. People have been lied to for so long that the anger and pure malice runs deep. And there are just too many guns.. It cant end well..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I hate to say it but it is going sideways anyway. At least this is an option where people in states that don't want to be in a 18th century dumpster fire will come out on top.

Otherwise the way I see it going is the way of the USSR under Yeltsin.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I get the comparison.. But can you see the American public accepting the russian standard of living?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Ummm they won't have a choice. When the crash of 1929 happened people where not asked if they were cool with it.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow And that will be the same again.. And in 1929 the rich Americans just got richer. Doesnt that sound familiar.?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman In 1929 the country was not run by a fascist who declared half the country an enemy. In 1929 the POTUS was not invading cities.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow People keep on confusing economics with politics..And if we start digging into the political times, with Prohibition and the rise of corruption of politicians and judges, its not quite the leap you think..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman They are one and the same. Economics largely dictates politics. It always has. It is only in academia that a completely artificial and arbitrary separation of the two was created.

Again, this is a situation that the US has not seen before. A combination of the 1929 crash with the political mess roughly equivalent to 1991 USSR. Economic devastation and totalitarian nuts and the will of the people rendered irrelevant.
@whowasthatmaskedman Or an even better comparison with the sectarian hate would be early 1990s Yugoslavia just with a larger land mass.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Hmmm. Tito and the Soviet union kept Yogoslavia under the thumb with secret police. Once Tito was gone five centuries of hate came out. But I see where you are going with this. America has everything the rest of the world has in history. But there is a touch of the Privateer among the wealthy classes. Including the old money. They act like licensed pirates on the Kings warrant. And get away with it.. And everyone either wants some of that, or despises them for it..Including other countries now..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman That is mostly cliches from the cold war. And that is also factually wrong. Once Tito died the US crashed their economy intentionally. They then passed a bill that made it so that the constituent republics were required to declare independence to qualify for debt relief. For ideological reasons they could not allow a socialist country in Europe to continue. Period. They also had the CIA handing out literal duffel bags of cash to every far right lunatic in the country.

Check out "To kill a Nation" by Dr. Michael Perenti. He lays it out with receipts.

The point I was making is that the United States has alot of sectarian bullshit to exploit and this time it is being done entirely domestically.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I will look up the book. But certainly agree with the last comment. In fact I think it is a factor in America having so few friends now..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman To Kill a Nation is a lecture. You can find it on Youtube. Can't recall the title but the former CIA station chief for Yugoslavia also wrote a book on how they were handing out cash to literally every nutcase in the country including terrorist organizations like the KLA. His book is banned for sale in the USA. I think Perenti references the book in the lecture.

But it was all first put into motion by Bush Sr. I doubt it is a coincidence that Bush was a former CIA head.
