Interesting. I'm reading some of the posts here, and some amuse me.
Bill Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, but it really amuses me that the commenter doesn't understand that the President does not decide that (typo: this should be what not that) bills are approved. Congress does. In this case it was a GOP controlled Senate and a GOP controlled House.
Nevertheless, the bill was part of an "omnibus" bull, that went into effect on September 30, 1196 (I'm sure you understand that this is a typo, and it's 1996, not 1196, right?).
Portions of the bill were requested by both parties. Things like making sure companies have a way of vetting employees, and reducing fraud.
Trying to equate it with what's happening today, is laughable. For starters, Bill Clinton, Barak Obama and Joe Biden, did not send the National Guard into Home Depot parking lots to toss people, without ANY form of due process, to avoid mistakes, in the back of vans, and then send them to gulags.

I don't know anyone who is being deported.
Maybe people aren't up in arms because they know damn well they are here illegally and there is nothing to be done.
In addition, they organize and start making that public, what stops ICE from showing up and arresting them all?

Entering the US illegally is a misdemeanor, not a felony.
Data from July 2025 shows that approximately 65-72% of people in ICE detention have no criminal convictions, with figures ranging from 65% for book-ins (people processed into the system) and 71% for those held in detention. Reports from sources like the Cato Institute and Newsweek show figures that confirm this trend, with many of those who do have convictions having only minor offenses such as traffic violations.
So, why isn't arresting the worst of the worst....like drug dealers and murderers?
Why focus on day laborers and folks that have been here for years, working and paying taxes? Why arrest those who are appearing in court to get their cases heard by a judge?
These folks should be given an immediate green card and road to citizenship.
The system is broken because those who entered are not being processed and their cases heard because we do not have enough judges to work the enormous back log.
Nobody says that major criminals should not be arrested, jailed or deported......but EVERYONE must be given due process.
That's the law.
