The rules for Republicans and Democrats regarding political violence.

Democrats must be gracious, empathetic and call for calm on all sides.

Republicans can mock the victims, blame only one side, and demand more violence.

For Democrats, a single post from a random, anonymous user online will be treated as a statement from “the left”.

For Republicans, the outpourings of the right’s most powerful voices, in politics or the media, and including the president himself, somehow get a free pass.

Could you provide some recent examples to illustrate your point?

@GerOttman You can read the news and get plenty of examples. 🤷‍♀

This is on the WH website:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/03/democrats-showed-whose-side-theyre-on-and-its-not-the-american-people/

https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2020/12/10/trump-is-inciting-domestic-terrorism

The these two aren't even recent.

Trump has said himself he doesn't care if his refusal to acknowledge the losses of life on the democratic side causes division. He thinks there should be a divide.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/11/us/politics/political-violence-trump-blame.html

The calls are literally coming from inside the WH.
@GerOttman Sure: Charlie Kirk.

We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.
Barack Obama

For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now. We have radical left lunatics out there and we just have to beat the hell out of them
