Actual freedom means you can have different opinions. If you don't want a free society--and you don't live in one, and now I don't--then you are fundamentally opposed to all others' viewpoints.

Free, open societies can't allow those opposed to freedom to gain the upper hand, as they have done in Russia, China, North Korea, the US. That ends up in freedom for few, lack of freedom for most.

@SomeMichGuy Soros believes that his unfortunate circumstances in childhood render him savior of the world. They do not. Many suffered during WWII. They did not go on to attempt to take over the world through subversion of other nations. Do you know what democracy is? It is rule by the people. George Soros is not the people. He is George Soros. Liberal billionaire who wants rest of the world to be liberal.

We exist in a world of nations. Of cultures. I see no reason for Saudi Arabia to be like you. I see no reason for China to be like you. Russia does not wish to be like you. Only you want to be like you.

I do think Leftism can be defined, though. It's anti-capitalist Democracy, meaning Socialism or Communism, as opposed to Liberalism which is capitalist Democracy.

Marxists do believe in using the state, but people who are willing to use Authoritarianism don't understand Marxism. A huge part of his writing was about how material conditions dictate personal political interest. If 1% of society controls the means of production, then the policies passed will always favor that 1/%. If society as a whole controls the means, then the policies will benefit the workers.
When Tankies say we need temporary Authoritarianism, like Mao and Pol Pot claimed they wanted, they're ignoring Marx's whole point on materialism. We can't have temporary Authoritarianism because the moment we give full control to a handful of people, those people will use the state to benefit themselves and nobody else. That's why I'm always for expanding democracy.
