I'm not sure Cassidy resigning would be a good thing. He's about to lose re-election anyway to one of several more loyal Trumpists, precisely because he hestitated before voting Kennedy in.
Plus, as bad as a replacement chosen by Louisiana voters might be, if there's any chance Governor Landry could appoint someone, they'd almost certainly be worse.

@MistyCee It’s a matter of professional standards and ethics.
@KunsanVeteran I see.
The problem is, Trump can't tolerate professionals or ethics, and is actively purging folks with those attributes from every position in the executive branch.
I'm not saying Cassidy's a saint, and I blame him for voting to confirm Kennedy, but on the remote chance that, as a lame duck, he might pull a Liz Cheney and show some spine, I'd rather he not self-purge.

@MistyCee I get your very real concern and valid point. But a physician who betrays their oath, professional ethics, and (in this case) constituents cannot be allowed to continue. The proper and ethical thing for Cassidy to do would be renounce Kennedy and resign.
The consequences are just too great. Cassidy contributed to vaccine preventable deaths by leading the charge that go Kennedy’s approved. Enough other Republican senators were set to vote against Kennedy, but (reportedly) changed their minds when Cassidy announced he would vote to approve.
Cassidy only did that because he had previously angered tRUMP by not supporting his entire platform.

@KunsanVeteran I get your point as well.
This is why Trump burns through lawyers and why eventually, everyone in the executive branch has to choose between loyalty to the Constitution and the man.
I'm all for Cassidy renouncing Kennedy, but resigning afterwards I'm not so sure about. He does NOT serve at Trump's pleasure, and I doubt the Hippocratic Oath demands that once he hurt his patient, he should walk out of the operating room and let the guy bleed out.
Does that make sense?

@MistyCee What you are talking about there is abandoning a patient—very, very different set of circumstances.
Physicians pride ourselves on being largely self policing. That’s why he should resign.

@KunsanVeteran It's different because it's abandoning the public as opposed to one patient?
I'm not a physician, but I am a Louisiana voter, and I have zero confidence that the Governor would appoint anyone that would offend Trump and not much more confidence that anyone better suited to the office than Cassidy would be elected by Louisiana voters.
