U.S. labor secretary wants Trump to ‘crack down’ on Portland
During yesterday's bizarre and televised cabinet meeting, U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, said “Thank you for what you are doing with your agents on ICE, and thank you for the prosecution, and I hope you will come to Portland, Oregon, and crack down”
“We are expecting a crackdown,” Chavez-DeRemer added, glancing at Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has touted the arrest of cartel members in Oregon.
For the record, the ICE Oregon tally has been four farmworkers during a traffic stop in Marion County, a 38-year-old chiropractor originally from Iran outside his child’s Montessori school last month, and all the people they've been arresting immediately after their immigration hearings at the federal courthouse.
Chavez-DeRemer added “There are still good people” in Oregon, I was able to visit Buckeye Pacific, really a trading floor for the timber industry.”
She had zero experience in labor issues, never owned a business, is a relative newcomer to Oregon.
But she is a Mexican-American, who checked the boxes Trump was looking for: Mexican, Female and MAGA. So she was handed the Labor Cabinet job. She won a single term to Congress, after Democrats destroyed each other (progressive, vs centrist) in the 5th Congressional District. Democrats got their shit together in 2024 and got her kicked out.
But she wants to crack down on Portland. Trump was elated.
