Congressional Budget Office Report August 22, 2025

"We project that increases in tariffs implemented during the period from January 6, 2025, to August 19, 2025 will decrease primary deficits (which exclude net outlays for interest) by $3.3 trillion if the higher tariffs persist for the 2025‒2035 period," Phillip Swagel, CBO’s director wrote."By reducing the need for federal borrowing, those tariff collections will also reduce federal outlays for interest by an additional $0.7 trillion. As a result, the changes in tariffs will reduce total deficits by $4.0 trillion altogether."

Uh oh dems are now even further stumped and without the ability to create their own plan 🤪😛😜

Hold your horses, Mr. Jackson.

I thought you were in favor of tariff rebates to taxpayers?

And if so, how is tariff money going to reduce the deficit if we're going to be giving it back to taxpayers? 🤔

@jackjjackson

The Tax Foundation estimates that there are 68 million single-filers in the U.S. making under $75,000/year. That puts that portion of your proposed tariff tax refund at $68 billion.

In 2021, there were about 20 million joint-filers making $100,000 or less. So, lets estimate there are now 30 million joint-filers making $125,000 or less - adding another $30 billion to your proposal.

That's nearly a cost of $100 billion - or about 30% of your numbers on an annual basis.
Still a substantial chunk out of the deficit. You’re continual hassling of me is tiresome. @beckyromero

Someone has to keep you own your toes.

Tariffs are paid by consumers, so yes this is similar to a consumption tax.

@samueltyler2 Radicals always get the microphone...that said, the Democrats have no game plan which is concerning and leaves too much room for this to run. Pardoning criminals and placing the military in cities - who is cool with that?

@fun4us2b that is how Germany moved in the early 1930s.
Oh place ….. @samueltyler2
