Donald Trump claims America is the only country in the world to use mail-in voting.

He is either clueless, or lying, both of which are equally possible.

More than 35 countries use mail in voting, including all Nordic countries, which are among the healthiest democracies on Earth.

He's wrong about that, others use it. But here in the US, we've used it for absentee voting in the past. Some states however, mine included, just send ballots out to everyone and their brother. Absentee voting is requested and tracked. Mail in is ripe for corruption. I agree we need absentee voting. But not the way it's been handled since covid.

Also....the US is not a democracy. It's a representative republic. I don't care what democracies use it.

I think it's not that he would be lying. It's rather that truth, as an epistemological category, simply does not exist for this "man" and his admirers.
helenS · 36-40, F
@ChipmunkErnie What I mean is, that, to him, truth simply does not exist. There is no such thing as truth.
In fact that's an interesting sort of freedom. You are not even supposed to tell the truth, because there is no truth.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@helenS Or "Trumpy truth" is simply what is most advantageous to Trump at any given time.

@ChipmunkErnie the art of the steal.. oh wait deal..
markinkansas · 61-69, M
every usa military man around the world . votes this way. and President Trump cast a vote-by-mail ballot in Florida this week after months of questioning the security of the method of voting. and that was a few years ago..
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I vote for the "both" option. As to "healthy democracies", it is terribly obvious that is the LAST thing he wants the USA to be.

He is clueless

Yes.

lying,

Yes.

Trump makes the "truth" fit what he wants to see. Why I call him "Sharpie Man".

This is why Kellyanne Kelly came up with the term "alternative reality", which to her, and Trump, are what reality "should" be like.

He's confident in his support among MAGAs, so he does not care.

The man seems to live in a world of his own. Britain has had postal voting for years 🙂
DrWatson · 70-79, M
When people call him out on his lies, he often answers, "I never said that." And when he is pressed further, his excuse is, "People told me that."

What a leader.

I will vote if I have to stand in line. 🗳
specman · 51-55, MVIP
I think he is just trying to push his doing away with mail in voting

The only first world country that leaves an open avenue for voter fraud perhaps? Even Mexico requires a valid ID to vote. Libs can not win a fair election.
The U.S. is actually a Constitutional Republic
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@BrandNewMan Republic basically means representative democracy. It doesn't need to be a direct democracy like ancient Athens to be counted as a democracy. This means electing state representatives as well.

Article 1, section 4 of Constitution says that states determine the place and manner of elections.

Trump, as President, has a duty to uphold the Constitution. Even if he doesn't like mail-in voting, he has no say in the matter. It's up to the states, and those states have no reason to get rid of it given how the overwhelming majority of their constituents trust and approve of mail-in voting.

He just wants a scapegoat so he could undermine election results that don't go his way. Even with all the federal agencies under his control, he still can't release any proof that the 2020 election was rigged

@BrandNewMan I don't think many people took the Trump-Russia thing seriously, but considering Russia had hacked the DNC in order to influence the election right after Trump publicly invited them to look into Hillary, it was definitely worth investigating as a matter of national security.

No other presidential candidate in history had ever asked a foreign government to dig up dirt on their opponent. So the fact openly tried to is highly concerning. I don't think anybody outside of social media basement dwellers said for sure that he colluded.

If Trump or the RNC been hacked instead at the behest of Democrats and had emails leaked by foreign actors, how would you react to our intelligence agencies doing absolutely nothing about it?
Ironically, Russia has mail-in “voting” 🤡
