@specman There was agreement but no deals because not all the parties involved were at the meeting.
@hippyjoe1955 the meeting was then really just for show?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@specman No. The meeting was simply a start. Now comes the hard work of selling the agreement to the racist hatreds we find in Europe toward Russia.
@hippyjoe1955 since Ukraine is our allies I think we should support them, but I’m not sure how much support. That is dependent on how the war was actually started. I am not sure!
@hippyjoe1955 yes a lot of people saw Russia as being bad even before the war.

@specman Completely agree. America is great at propagandising its people to fit its agenda. The Korean war, the Vietnam war, the Cold War etc etc etc were all the result of careful building consensus that the US was always right in any of the wars it undertook. It is still happening.
@hippyjoe1955 that’s the same with leaders from any countries. Nobody wants to be the bad guy. US is no different.

@specman The difference being that the US loves war. Its economy depends on war. I had no use for former Canadian PM Chretien but I completely agreed with him not going to war in Iraq. I was disappointed that he sent troops to Afghanistan because I didn't believe the American propaganda that Afghanistan was a safe harbour for evil people.
@hippyjoe1955 each is entitled to their beliefs. I am not going to argue with you about any of that cause tbh I have not really delved in to that. I just know they were a hotspot for terrorist and they needed to have them out of control.

@specman And the longest and most expensive war ended with the US running away leaving their gear behind them. What an utter waste of human live and money. I met a young man who served and almost died in Afghanistan. He was riding in an armoured vehicle when it was struck by an IED. He woke up in Germany barely alive. Many months later he realised that his life was changed forever. He had suffered heart damage and his body was still full of shrapnel from the explosion. Such a needless and foolish war.
@hippyjoe1955 I am proud of him! I thank him for his service and sacrifice. My son is a US MARINE, he is in an amphibious attack unit on a ship somewhere. I’m worried for him, but this is why he joined five years ago. I’m very proud of him!

@specman I served my time as an officer in the CAF. I came out with a very jaded view of military service. I don't thank people for their service knowing what I know. They were sent as meat to the meat grinder.
