[Politics] The New Colossus...
I am making this post because I doubt many people understand what the statue of Liberty stand for.
Someone posted a meme that had a scene from the movie "Escape from New York". Where the statue of Liberty had fallen.
The meme's words were against policies in New York. And therefore the image used from the movie was not only irrelevant, yet irrelevant to the premise of the movie.
The movie was about a dystopian COUNTRY! Not about just New York City.
It actually parallels what is happening under this Trump administration, with the use of both the national guard as well as the military!
Now while Trump is using both national guard and the military for immigration purposes, there is nothing to stop him from doing the same as in the movie "Escape from New York"!
The scene used was just after the military had shot down the statue of Liberty. And this poem by Emma Lazarus is at it's base.
Please understand what it truly stands for is not dystopian!
If you don't have anything worth while saying, expect it to be deleted.

The new Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she with silent lips:
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
