NYC Mayoral Candidate Proposes $65M for Transgender Procedures, Including for Minors

You might think fixing potholes, reducing crime, or lowering taxes would top the agenda for someone hoping to lead America’s largest city. But one mayoral candidate has different priorities that show exactly where the progressive movement is heading—and it’s not toward the common-sense solutions most Americans want.

Queens assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist running for New York City mayor, has unveiled a shocking plan to spend $65 million of taxpayer money on transgender medical procedures—including for children. This directly challenges President Trump’s efforts to protect minors. It’s part of Mamdani’s campaign promise to make New York a “sanctuary city” for transgender individuals.

“The Mamdani administration will protect gender-affirming care immediately by investing $65 million in public providers to provide gender-affirming care to New Yorkers who seek it and will hold private entities abetting Trump’s attacks to account,” the website states, noting that such care would be made available both to adults and children in direct opposition to President Donald Trump’s efforts to restrict transgender procedures — whether chemical or surgical — for minors.

Not content with just funding these controversial procedures, Mamdani’s plan goes further. He promises to “investigate and hold public hearings on hospitals that deny trans youth their rightful healthcare.”

This clearly targets medical facilities that might have religious or ethical objections to performing these procedures on children. It’s like putting a “perform these procedures or else” gun to doctors’ heads.

The $65 million transgender program is just one piece of Mamdani’s massive spending spree. According to the New York Post, his proposals would cost taxpayers a whopping $10 billion. He claims he’ll get this money by hiking taxes on “the wealthy and corporations.” Experts warn this plan could send people running for the exits faster than rats from a sinking ship.

If Mamdani gets his way, New York taxpayers would also fund a $3.27 billion plan to outfit public schools with renewable energy infrastructure over the next decade. Another $87 million would create a new city office just for LGBTQ issues.

Business leaders are sounding the alarm about these proposals. The mix of huge tax hikes with radical social policies has many worried about New York’s future.
