Andrew Cuomo concedes New York City Democratic mayoral primary to Zohran Mamdani

I am so proud of NY and I really wish Mamdani well. I don't know if he's going to get elected but if so, this could be a turning point. I'm so happy for this person and I'm glad he's leading. We need big change.

Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist member of the state Assembly, started to pull ahead with more than an estimated 80% of ballots counted.

Mamdani would be the city's first Muslim and Indian American mayor if elected.

His army of young canvassers relentlessly knocked on doors throughout the city seeking support. Posters of his grinning mug were up on shop windows. You couldn't get on social media without seeing one of his well-produced videos pitching his vision - free buses, free child care, new apartments, a higher minimum wage and more, paid for by new taxes on rich people.

That youthful energy was apparent Tuesday evening, as both cautiously optimistic canvassers and ecstatic supporters lined the streets of Central Brooklyn, creating a party-like atmosphere that spread from poll sites into the surrounding neighborhoods.

This is the best way to get people to take notice of the Democrats again: Introduce policies that improve the lives of the many, while squarely targeting the billionaires who are responsible for the misery in the first place. No wonder the Democrat elites were panicking! 🤣

And I think his election is now a shoo-in. NYC is Democrat through and through, plus Mamdani has made considerable headway in more traditionally Republican districts.

It's just a pity he can't run for president one day.

@iamthe99 I was surprised the dems dislike Mamdani but I'm really hoping if he's elected, it sends a message anyways. The dems have not had a backbone for quite awhile. Their politics are there but they don't do enough and seem to have no ambition. So we need people with a spine to start doing what needs to be done.

@SatanBurger This is the big problem. When push comes to shove, the Dems are essentially the same as the old-school Republicans, but with one HUGE weakness: they HATE their progressive base whereas the Republicans LOVE theirs.

@iamthe99 That's why we have no more middle class, people don't realize that repubs are the cause of stagnant wages and corruption but Democrats continually support that.

My gut does think that this progressive would be better he's offering alternatives while dems sit there complaining about Trump and repubs drag their feet over the mere mention of ceos making a meekly 15,000 weekly instead of 20,000 or something. Oh the horror.

I should say that i fully agree with Democrats about Trump but it kinda seems like they're scared of the solution. I think everyone is and don't want to take that first step.
