With Three Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups Near or Heading Towards Iran, Trump Nominates a Submariner as CNO.

President Trump has chosen Adm. Daryl Caudle as the next chief of naval operations, nearly four months after firing Adm. Lisa Franchetti with no explanation.

Caudle, the head of U.S. Fleet Forces in Norfolk, Va., would replace Adm. James Kilby, the vice chief of naval operations who stepped in to serve as the acting chief of naval operations in February.

The Senate Armed Services Committee received the nomination Tuesday.

Caudle, a career submariner from North Carolina, has been head of U.S. Fleet Forces Command since December 2021 and also has held leadership positions with Submarine Forces, Submarine Force Atlantic, and Allied Submarine Command.

A peculiar choice, given current tensions with Iran.

Admiral Lisa Franchetti was a carrier admiral.

Some of her past assignments included:
commander, U.S. 6th Fleet
commander, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO
commander, Carrier Strike Group 15
commander, Carrier Strike Group 9
commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea.

Although a surface warfare officer, her predecessor Admiral Mike Gilday:
sea combat commander for the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group.
commander, Carrier Strike Group 8

If confirmed as CNO, Caudle would be in a position to shape the fate of high-tech initiatives such as Project 33, which aims to accelerate the fielding of robotic platforms and AI enablers to deter Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific.

“The right way, in my opinion, to think about robotic autonomous systems, uncrewed, unmanned systems, is how we package them to solve our problems and where they are best-suited,” Caudle said in January at the annual Surface Navy Association symposium. “They can be best-suited where the acceptable level of risk of loss of life is too high, the depth of water too shallow, the air domain too complicated, [or] the mission is just not worth a manned combatant.”

He’s also advocated for accelerating the fielding of new weapons to shoot down one-way attack drones instead of expending expensive munitions for that task.

At the SNA symposium, Caudle said the Navy should be “embarrassed” that it hasn’t fielded directed energy systems, such as high-energy lasers, faster.

No, Canada has no submarines.

Actually, they do. Four of them.

And they're in the process of acquiring more and replace the old ones.

😄 lol! Yes, you are correct in the literal sense, Canada does in fact have 4 submarines! They are the Victoria-class submarine which were acquired from the Royal British Navy by the Canadian government in 1998. This is a model-class of submarine that I am intimately familiar with from when I served in the Royal Swedish Navy as a Marine Propulsion Design Engineer.

The propulsion system of the Victoria-class is diesel-electric which gives this class of submarine it's stealth-like strike capability due to it's silent running characteristic. This sub was designed as a high-speed, highly agile military asset while operating deep underneath the polar ice cap for long periods of time without the need for resurfacing.

What I was referring to when I responded to @sunsporter1649 in saying to him, "Canada has no submarines. That photo is a US nuclear submarine", I was highlighting through inference that Canada has no 'nuclear' submarines.

I left out the word 'nuclear' because I presumed that @sunsporter was referring to 'nuclear' submarines in his question to me, since it was he who provided a photo image of the US Navy's very first 'nuclear' powered submarine which then formed the basis of our short interaction with each other.

That photo is the Late President Jimmy Carter when he was a Lieutenant in the US Navy while aboard the US Navy's very first nuclear powered submarine in the early 1950's.

That photo is associated with the story of Lt. Jimmy Carter showing up in Ontario Canada to lend his expertise in operational matters concerning a land-based nuclear power generating plant which had unexpectedly shut itself down, which was uncharted territory for trouble-shooting anything that used nuclear power at the time in North America.

The very best, most modern ship builders in the world are found in South Korea where their expertise in nautical design and ship building is unsurpassed anywhere in the world. The reason why Canada (among other Nations) is courting South Korea as a supplier of nautical hardware rather than turning to US-based shipbuilders, is because the USA has recently proven itself to be unreliable as well as unpredictable as a military ally and Trading partner with Canada... and for the rest of the world as well for that matter. That is why the US government will not likely be getting a contract to be the supplier of Canada's expanding submarine fleet.

Hope this explanation clears up any confusion you felt from the short interaction @sunsporter1649 had started with me! 🙂

Never assume ANYTHING with [@sunsporter]. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Deflection, Distraction & Spin from Trump University. 😉
