U.S. Senator Alex Padilla of California was physically assaulted

6/12/25 - Senator Padilla forced to the ground, handcuffed, and removed from a Department of Homeland Security press conference by the Trump administration in Los Angeles.

It happened after Padilla identified himself and tried to ask Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem a question during the event, which was in response to the ongoing ICE raids and militarization against protesters in LA this past week.

This is not supposed to happen in the United States. This is fascism on full display.

If this is how the administration treats a sitting U.S. Senator, what are they willing to do to civilians? Senator Padilla said it himself: If this is how the administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, cooks, and day laborers throughout the country.

Trump and his far-right goons have already sicced ICE and their Gestapo tactics on immigrant communities across the country to carry out their mass deportation agenda.

Sat. June 14 join the No King's Demonstration in your area. There will be 1,500 demonstrations around the country. Trump must be removed from office, arrested, and tried for treason and other charges. THIS CAN'T WAIT!

He looks Hispanic, the thought they can improve their daily quota.
@Northwest IIRC, Alex Padilla was the Secretary of State of California and was appointed to the Senate by Governor Newsom to fill Harris’ seat when she became Vice President.

Further, I believe he became CA Senior Senator after the death of Feinstein.

Noem & company may have just stepped deep in tRUMP’s feces…

@KunsanVeteran I was being sarcastic. For the Homeland Secretary not to recognize, is something else. Trump picks the best people (sarcasm again)/
@Northwest well, you weren’t wrong—although Senator Padilla was born in the US, both of his parents are naturalized citizens from Mexico. So his last name is of Hispanic origin.

I am going to relate a story that affected my immediate family this very week.

My spouse is a Filipina who became a naturalized citizen in 1980. We have been married since 1990 and I am a retired USAF officer.

On Monday, June 9th, I was out of town mowing one of our properties and a county policeman came to our home. When my wife answered the door he asked if she was ———- and gave her maiden name. Her maiden name has a Spanish origin (very common in the PI). He claimed that “they” had received a missing person report re: her. He asked to see ID and she showed him her retired military spouse ID and he asked for another form of ID so she then showed him her driver’s license. He then went to his patrol car and spoke briefly on the radio. Then came back and returned her IDs and said “you’re good.”

There is absolutely no reason any neighbor, friend, relative, acquaintances would have said that she was missing. And why use her maiden name when we have been married over 35 years?

Had I been here when this happened I would have been livid. I strongly suspect that she was targeted by her maiden name. Hopefully this incident is closed, but if there are any further repercussions I will report them here.

And we will not go quietly into the night!

@KunsanVeteran I am so sorry that this happened.
There was no reason for it.
My best to your wife and to you.

Sadly, this is Trump Fascism 2025.

Keep fighting the good fight for democracy and decency.
@Northwest Nope. Neither of those things. We know all of our neighbors. None of them know my wife’s maiden name. Also does not explain why she would have to show two forms of ID—both of which were government issued documents.
@JSul3 This seemed reminiscent of the officers going to schools to interview students about their parents—blind fishing expeditions based on their names. Had I been there at the time I would have demanded he show me his badge and provide me with the name of his immediate supervisor.

There’s not much I can do about it now, but we are going to have a conversation with our lawyer as well as several USAF JAGs who are my personal friends.
