I’ve been around 5 decades…

And I am noticing that things the Republicans of old were very strongly against are now suddenly good ideas under MAGA. 30 years ago I voted Republican because they stood for global free trade, right to personal privacy, and immigration policies that focused on criminals and immigration reform. Now I vote mainly democrat for the same reasons.

Leftists typically stand up for personal freedoms and immigration rights, as well as peace and a healthy environment.
Shattering us was more important than anything, in the West, for decades. The way out should be obvious.

@Roundandroundwego most Americans are descended from immigrants and support immigration and immigrants rights. You and I may have different definitions of the word “immigrant “.

I say the same thing about the Dems . Obama Hillary and others did a 180 turn on many topics from 2008-2020.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Not sure if I would completely agree about Romney. He seems to have some integrity. But you are right, no non-maga republicans have any voice at all in the party
@trollslayer I didn't agree with Romney's politics but I think he had integrity. But my point was even he knew he could only say what he said on his way out the door.

Republicans 30 years ago were very different beasts indeed. Back then, at least the mainstream of both parties could agree on basic stuff.

That's really no longer the case under Trump.

Oh, and I used to vote for ~30% Republican candidates, @trollslayer, before they went off the deep end. I always evaluate each person in each race, when info is available. (And I typically ignore candidates who can't be bothered with answering the race-specific questions asked of all candidates for a given post, posed by the League of Women Voters and reported on their website.)

The GOP is dead. It is 100% the Party of Trump, where no voice of dissent is allowed and those who do not bow down and pledge total loyalty, are quickly dispatched.
