Dem Rep. LaMonica McIver Charged With Assaulting ICE Officers at N.J. Detention Facility

The U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey has decided to bring charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) for allegedly assaulting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during a scuffle outside a detention facility in Newark earlier this month.

“After a thorough review of the video footage of Delaney Hall and a full investigation from HSI, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey has made the determination to charge Congresswoman LaMonica McIver for assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers,” Director of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on X Monday evening.

“No one is above the law. If any person, regardless of political party, influence or status, assaults a law enforcement officer as we witnessed Congresswoman McIver do, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” she added. “We thank our brave ICE law enforcement officers for their service to this great nation.”

BTW, all members of Congress have a legal right to tour and enter Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detention facilities, including those operated by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and CBP (Customs and Border Protection), for the purpose of conducting oversight. This right is a legal mandate, meaning the facilities are required to accommodate these visits.

@ElwoodBlues What happened to "no one is above the law"?
@sunsporter1649 The oversight law applies to ALL members of Congress, sunstroke. Even the ones who are black and female. When ICE denied Rep. McIver's party access to the facility, THEY broke the law.

BTW, the facility, Delaney Hall, 451 Doremus Ave in Newark, is in her own 10th district! Imagine denying Congresssional oversight to a detention facility within the Congresswoman's own district!!

UPDATE:

The case against McIver was filed by Acting New Jersey US Attorney Alina Saad Habba. You may recall Ms Habba from when she was tRump's lead attorney in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case. Apparently she failed to object at multiple points during the trial. Even if objections are overridden, they are points that can be brought up on appeal. Alina Saad Habba's failures greatly narrow tRump's appeal options. SAAD!!!
