Can Any MAGA Explain Trump's Tariffs?

I'm taking a few days to recoup from the flip flopping induced whiplash. Same for the rest of the world.

Today's latest, the Administration is now saying that their intent was not to punish China, but to help it diversify its economy from a total focus on manufacturing to a bended manufacturing model.

So, out of curiosity, where did the "Sir, may we please have a deal, they're kissing my ass", and "we're making $2B a day from China with the tariffs", comes in that strategy?

I’m not an economist . Not a worshipper of Orange either. China doesn’t play by the rules. All nation knows this. I suspect the tariffs is just a bargaining chip by a businessman , not a politico .

@AthrillatheHunt China is actually playing by very similar rules America has been playing by for decades. And frankly, doing a better job of it. Pretty soon they will have the reserve currency status America used to enjoy and then America will really have something to cry about..😷

@AthrillatheHunt So what it they don't play by the rules? And how are tariffs a strategy to level the playing field? In South America and the Middle East, we have a long history of ripping their natural resources and impose our will. We did that in China for decades prior to WWII.

So, how are Tariffs a strategic bargaining chip?

@Northwest “so what if they dont play by the rules “. Would you say the same thing about Orange ? Are your standards consistent ?

Which is part of this:

Was not clear? Problem is that Cheeto Benito has no clothes and he's dragging into a gun fight, armed with a rusty Swiss Army knife.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Northwest US military is far from a rusty Swiss Army knife .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt At this point that is true. However we do see a possible future for the US Military forces inn the present state of the russian Military, regarding big ticket items😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman you sound like Dr strange talking about the 1.4 million possible outcomes in infinity wars. Lol

US military is far from a rusty Swiss Army knife .

And once more, you miss the point.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Northwest you keep saying that . I thought you posed the question to hear different POV , possibly learn new info, and maybe change your own POV.
Now it just seems like you posted it to start a text argument with people whose comments don’t support your agenda . My bad for responding dude .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt I accept the premise. But its hardly that. The Americans need to spend big on items like aircraft carriers to extend their reach over the horizon in a way no other nation does. the old USSR used to.. Now the navy is rusting and much of the army is not far behind. America faces similar choices as the economy unravels..😷

Yet, it turns out you're the one going into off context arguments.

US military is far from a rusty Swiss Army knife .

So now, this conversation enters into the "let's explain what a metaphor. The term "brining a knife to a gun fight" has absolutely nothing to do with the military. Now, let's see how you're going to stick to endless arguing.

@whowasthatmaskedman don’t here much chirping from the Houthi’s anymore .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt They are good for takinjg a ton of advanced weaponary to push inferior forces around. However in a superpower conflict thay are juicy and politically untenable targets for a nuclear bomb or missile to take out mega billions of $ and ten thousand trained personell in one stroke..😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Northwest dude I love how you’re snarky like a chick . Lol
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman nuclear bomb huh? Let’s keep this reality based .

You must be popular with the ladies.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt Thats my point. As long as the US only fights proxy wars, then its all fine. (Unless Iran or some terror group gets hold of a "bomb"
.. But if America is facing Russia or China and things get out of hand, a dozen bombs or missiles even in close proximity, can leave a hole in the ocean where more than a dozen ships used to be..One per carrier group. 😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman any country that uses a nuke would cease to exist and be a global pariah for 100 years . Way different then when we hit Hiroshima .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt That does not change the fact that if the shooting starts between major powers, the carrier group is a dinosaur, unable to survive a basic nuclear attack..😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I cannot think of a time in all of history when it was 1 country vs the entire world . That’s what would happen if China or Russia dropped a Nuke.

@AthrillatheHunt Just because it has not happened does not mean it wont. The sole purpose of a carrier group was to extend sophisticated power to far flung parts of the world. Before that it was the battleship.. But tech evolved..And it has evolved again. Nuclear bombs and the missile are here. And your Hiroshima comment makes my point. Man has always used the meanest nastiest weapon available in war. No reason to believe that will change..😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Hiroshima made the world safe for over half a century . It was a “never again “ moment . But history has a way of repeating itself .
