Michigan Homeowner Shoots Intruder in Neck During Early Morning Break-In

A 47-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot while allegedly attempting to break into a residence in the early morning hours on April 7.

As reported by MLive, Jackson police responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:44 a.m. from a homeowner in the 300 block of North Gorham Street. The 40-year-old caller reported an active break-in, stating that a man had shattered a basement window and was ascending the basement stairs inside the home.

According to police, the homeowner confronted the intruder and discharged a single round from a handgun, striking the suspect in the neck. Officers arrived to find the wounded man still on the staircase. He was transported to Henry Ford Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say the suspect, who is homeless, admitted to breaking the window to gain entry, claiming he believed the home was unoccupied. The homeowner was taken into custody for questioning, as is standard procedure in such cases. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
