Today's Liberal Hates Tariffs, But Thought They Were Okee Dokee When Obama Implemented Them 🙄

Here's what NBC News had to say about it:
Barack Obama imposed tariffs on Chinese tires in 2009 to protect American manufacturers from a surge in imports that was harming the domestic industry. These tariffs were part of a broader strategy to enforce trade laws and support American workers.

And on Canada:
Barack Obama imposed tariffs on certain imports, including those from Canada, primarily to protect American industries from unfair competition. However, these tariffs were generally lower compared to those proposed by later administrations, and they were part of broader trade policies aimed at balancing trade relationships.

These hypocrites don't hate tariffs...they are terrified of Trump

Okay, if Trump’s just doing the same things Obama did then why do you love him so much?
@Theyitis did you hear anyone (including conservatives) complain about Obama's tariffs? Nope

So why are they bad now?

@BizSuitStacy Idk, I don’t remember any conservatives (or liberals) praising Obama for his tariffs either. It’s almost like Obama’s tariffs were boring, small, and common sense, not meant to start a trade war with our allies because “they’ve been ripping us off and now we’re going to get even.”
@Theyitis of course you don't remember...it was barely a news event. The economic principle hasn't changed. Only the narrative.

Sounds like something you'd hear on tv

@BizSuitStacy Are we speaking a different language here? I just explained to you exactly why Obama’s tariffs were different from Trump’s and you’re still acting like they’re the exact same thing. They’re not. Obama’s tariffs were smaller, and more targeted at certain specific goods. They were business as usual.

Trump went in with a chip on his shoulder claiming that our allies had been ripping us off, so he drastically raised tariffs on all goods from many countries under the pretext of getting even. This caused the stock market to crash and consumers are about to feel some real pain.

And what’s the real reason for these combative tariffs? The plan is for countries and industries to come crawling back to Trump begging for relief from the tariffs, and Trump will tell the nations’ leaders, “Okay, I’ll reduce/cancel your tariff if you promise to always say good things about me.” And he’ll tell the CEO’s, “Okay, I’ll reduce/cancel your tariff as long as you implement a company policy that your workers can only say good things about me.” He’s flexing his power to make everyone sing his praises, and who’s going to pay for it? The people that buy the most stuff but can’t afford to buy in bulk. That would be the lower middle class.
@Theyitis You provided exactly zero, nada, no economic reasoning behind. All you did is repeat the media narrative.

Uggghhh...well...it's bad when Trump died it...ugghhh...you know...b'cuz Trump 🙄

@BizSuitStacy Look, I never took an economics class in high school or college. But what do you not understand about smaller and targeted? That is objectively something more than just “b’cuz Trump.”
