Tariffs are neither good nor bad. They do allow for governments to pick winners and losers. The concern at play for most people is disruption. Tariff spikes are going to put a lot of short term pain on the poorest and least able to absorb it. Another major concern is the loss of Soft Power on the international stage.
But if you want to go with that logic...
Look at all the countries with successful socialized health care
Look at all the countries with gun control and outright bans
Look at all the countries with wealth taxes
Lots of other countries do a lot of things that get demonized by the right. Why don't they use critical thinking skills for that?
Of course, I'm not a Democrat. I'm a leftist.

@ViciDraco This is soft power in a nutshell. Giving billions of dollars to other countries in order
to get them to behave the way Democrats want them to behave. AKA: Bribery.
Soft power, a term coined by political scientist Joseph Nye, refers to the ability of a country to influence others through attraction and persuasion rather than coercion. USAID has been a pivotal tool in this regard, administering approximately 60% of US foreign assistance and disbursing USD 43.79 billion in 2023 alone. Its workforce of 10,000, with about two-thirds serving overseas, assisted around 130 countries.

I guess you have no clue, so I'll clue you in.
The US, just like all countries, imposes tariffs on products imported from other countries.
For instance, when you're coming back home from a trip, Customs asks you to declare any goods you bought on your trip, so tariffs can be imposed?
Oh, right, you've never been outside your MAGA compound. Well, that explains it.
It's not that we don't impose tariffs, it's when an economic war gets started, as opposed to negotiations, without thinking through the implications.
If Cheeto Benito starts an economic war, enjoy the $6 Trillion of new taxes he's about to impose on all Americans.
I guess you also don't understand that tariffs are not paid by the foreign countries, they are paid by us.
