Federal DOE Maybe Gone Soon

Trump did this surrounded by children at desk and ask them should he sign it, what is that all about?

Why did Congress in 1979 feel that the government needed to oversee the states and how they were handling education? Trump says it's supported yet they reported survey says 67% are against it. Oh well let's see what Congress will say!

how will this affect student loans and pell grants do you or anyone know?

@Penny White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters earlier Thursday the executive order would not entirely shutter the agency but would "greatly minimize" it.

She also said the remaining agency would still oversee Pell Grants and student loans that provide financial aid for undergraduate students.

"It's not going to be shut down," Leavitt said. "Pell Grants and student loans will still be run out of the department in Washington, D.C., but the great responsibility of educating our nation's students will return to the states."

Trump said Thursday these programs and others that provide resources for children with special needs would remain but would fall under other agencies.

"They're going to be preserved in full and redistributed to various other agencies and departments that will take very good care of them," Trump said.

@sunsporter1649 thank you @sunsporter1649
what do you think about itall? not knowing much about the dept of edu it still sounds like a bad idea to me. to let education run amok by state. it will cause state taxes to go up too i bet. d oy ou think its a good idea?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Penny Most excellent idea, instead of the feds running local school districts, the folks in the districts will be able to determine the direction of their kids education. And no money lost to the districts, the obscene amount of money going to the federal agency will now go to the States to divvy up among the districts

@sunsporter1649 so youre saying a portion of state taxes goes to the dept of edu? or money from the federal government will go to the states for education purposes?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Penny Federal money to the States to divvy up among the school districts, local district school taxes to the local schools. Should be extra money available to be returned to the Treasury since the bureaucracy of the DOE is signifitly reduced

@Penny with luck the federal government is out of the student loan business forever
Penny · 46-50, F
@MasterLee why would that be a good thing? government student loans are very reasonable with their interest rates and monthly payback amounts
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Penny so the next politician can buy their votes and payoff underwater basket weaving.

Reform education instead. Pay your own way.
