I don't take a lot of stock as to the importance of voter frustration at those town halls. I suspect the vast majority of those constituents, yes even in those in solid red districts, were not Trump voters (even if they might have voted for their own Republican representative.).

And those representatives know that, too. It won't take long before they hunker down and stop doing town hall events altogether.

They really aren't concerned at this point. It's possible they could be primaried by a traditional Republican. But the chances of them losing a primary if they have Trump's backing are insignificant. The Republican Party, as we grew up to know it, is dead. And over the past 9 years, the number of traditional Republicans who might have otherwise challenged these insurgents who are now in office has dwindled. They aren't up for a fight. They've tossed in the towel and are done with elective office.

What the MAGA representatives (and those small numbers of pre-Trump members) are worried about, those in districts where Trump's margin of victory was less than 15%, is the prospect of losing to a Democrat in the general election in November 2026.

@beckyromero my entire life I have hated the Republican Party, I spent my entire Adolescence making fun of the Shrub and voted against him at my first available chance. Kerry 2004. There was small minority of us that at no point Ever supported Bush even on 9/11/2001 and 9/12/2001, and I am among that minority.

http://www.mnftiu.cc/category/gywo/war1/ A web comic savagely mocking him that Teenage me was fond of.

If i'd been polled on 9/12/2001 I would have reported I strongly disapproved of the president.

But this is no longer Bush's party. Despite disagreements on the Iraq war and taxes, Bush was willing to work with Democrats on matters of close agreement.

Bush is also the last president to have signed legislation to raise the minimum wage, doing so when the Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress without a veto proof majority.

Seriously, don't confuse the Republicans you "hated" because of policy disagreements back then with Trump's blackshirts in office now.

follow-up

Sort first by party then when first elected:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_United_States_representatives

Only 64 House Republicans were elected prior to Trump's election victory in 2016.

Only 22 were in the House when George W. Bush was still president.

And even those small numbers include tools like Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise and Joe "You lie!" Wilson.

---

There are 85 House Democrats who elected prior to Trump's election victory in 2016.

And 43 were in the House when George W. Bush was still president.
