Trump Will Sign Executive Order Making English the Official Language of the US

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order later today, making English the official language of the U.S.

The executive order, upon signed, will officially rescind a mandate issued by former President Bill Clinton in 2000 that required federal agencies and recipients of federal funds to assist non-Native English speakers

Interestingly, the U.S. has never declared an official language for itself, despite its 250-year existence. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were written in English.

so it should be....sometimes i think we are losing our canadian heritage with newcomers not having to learn our 2 official languages english or french as they can do all their business, doctors, lawyers, shopping, you name it in their native tongue...i feel very strongly about that...i better stop now before i get myself in trouble
@beermeplease I believe that every Canadian and American should learn their local Native Nation's language as well so that theirs don't die out either.
@NativePortlander1970 that would be great...but i wonder how many there are...i think learning some and definitely learning this continents true heritage is definitely mandatory in our school system

@NativePortlander1970 Good luck with that in Oklahoma, there are a lot of tribes here.
@cherokeepatti Whichever Nation is the closest to your home.

@NativePortlander1970 there are so many 😂
@cherokeepatti It would be worth finding out who lives down the block and which Tribe they beling to, and ask if they can teach You.

@NativePortlander1970 Chickasaw is the nearest but there are a lot of Kiowas here too. Besides I would rather learn to speak Cherokee but it is one of the hardest languages to learn. They have a total immersion boarding school back east for Cherokee children to learn to speak it so the language doesn’t die out. Imagine trying to learn that without it being an immersion school
@cherokeepatti They were part of the trail as well, along with the Seminole and two others from the S.E. conference.
@cherokeepatti It has to be taught and spoken around from near birth.

@NativePortlander1970 Why learn these languages unless you have serious intentions of communicating with others on a regular basis?

@NativePortlander1970 I see more Choctaw and Kiowa tribal tags than I do Cherokee or Chickasaw here.
@cherokeepatti The cool thing is that most Native languages are almost near identical, and it's our heritage.

@NativePortlander1970 I don’t know about that. I think Cherokee is different. I think a lot of people can speak Pow-wow phrases and all of that though.
@cherokeepatti Cherokee was one of the Nations, along with the four other S.E. Conferences that had their own that was similar to each other.
