I don't think either was the intention, but screwing Europe has definitely been the consequence.

I don't use childish slang to discuss serious matters, but although no great supporter of the EU, do not see it having been created to damage either the US nor "Europe" (i.e. the two dozen or so different countries that occupty the continent of Europe).
Nor to harm anyone else, come to that, not deliberately anyway, if only because that would be self-defeating.
I do though think it protectionist, over-bureaucratic, over-central and over-expensive.
I see it as a basically good idea gone badly wrong..

Spain mostly developed because of the EU though. You can make an argument for other countries perhaps that were already advanced, but Spain benefited a lot.

@SaoirsePrend We benefited in the short term, but our industry was dismantled, now our agriculture is being ruined by the massive mports from Morocco and Mercosur countries, and we have zero sovereignty.
The biggest development in Spain happened in the 1960s and 1970s.

The original EEC was created by the CIA. The idea was to prevent another French / German war. At some point (particularly around the Lisbon Treaty) the direction went to building a rival to the US and arrogance and ineptitude took over. Currently very detrimental to people within the EU....
Use complete words please

It was to serve what they saw as their best interest which could also have been against the US's best interest.

The EU was created for a bunch of wannabe overlords to browbeat peasants
Its sad how the average person in europe has no rights despite what they are gaslight with.

No, you believe many silly things though. Try not to lose sleep over it.

@JimboSaturn They didn't, but stripping it down to its original ideals long before it becames something calling itself the "European Union Of The Cities And Regions", reveals a basically good idea subsequently gone very wrong.
[Yes, I understand that is the EU's full, official title too long for regular use - no marks for identifying the missing noun.]
