Elon Musk has more than 2 million times as much as you.

At $419.4 billion, his net worth dwarfs yours at $200,000 and change. Is that right? That's what the Wall Street Journal says.

What do you say?

That may be true but he will never know the despair of poverty ;)

@Nimbus What has poverty got to do with him? The woke blame the rich for amassing money.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 No, the woke blame the rich for not paying their fair share in taxes and abusing their wealth to undrmine the interests of the poor.
@SunshineGirl Some of the poor need to do more to take care of their own interests instead of blaming everyone else too ..

The poor has no money to pay taxes. Right? The fair share of taxes to be paid by everyone would be zero.
redredred · M
@SunshineGirl Exactly what is their fair share? I mean give me a precise percentage. If you don’t know, then you can’t claim they’re not paying their fair share. And how do they undermine the interests of the poor?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@redredred Being poor is a sad commentary of the way we have set up our society. We are just not able to address the inequalities baked into our nature as human beings. Some are smarter than others. Some are less driven than others. Some prefer to give their lives to God. The bottom line is a mess. @SunshineGirl girl views the situation the same way as Bernie Sanders who is constantly blaming the wealthy for not giving enough of their spoils stolen from the poor. This makes no sense. How can the rich ever steal anything from the poor who have nothing in the first place?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@redredred It is paying tax at the rate which has been set by democratically elected, statutory authorities, because that is what is needed to sustainably fund essential services that less wealthy members of society rely upon. Using wealth and power to avoid paying tax is anti-social and corrupt.
redredred · M
@SunshineGirl If printed single sided on 8-1/2 X 11 paper no Olympic weight lifter in history could lift the entire US tax code. Congress has written every one of these laws, regulations and statutes. If you violate them you get fined or even get sent to jail. The billionaires in our population scrupulously obey these laws but doing so allows anyone to take advantage of the enormous loopholes congress has written for themselves.

That’s why I asked you (and you failed to deliver) an exact percentage that is their fair share. Until you do that you can’t claim they are not paying their fair share. I assure you they are paying their legal share.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@redredred Well that is splendid to know that you have such fine upstanding billionaires and that Elon Musk is not actively working to undermine a progressive tax regime 😊 But an estimated $1.8tn a year lost to fraud and inefficient collection? I think there is a little more to this than members of Congress exploiting loopholes that they have created (an unevidenced claim, by the way).

Dp you really want me to copy out in full the marginal rates payable on federal income tax? Because, as I said, that is what I consider to be fair.
redredred · M
@SunshineGirl Wading through your copious irrelevancies I take it that, so long as everyone, billionaires included, pay their legal share, you’re happy with that. Now, keep in mind the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion. The latter is a crime while the former is legal.

Congress makes the rules, we play the game. I take deductions congress has legally allowed. These aren’t loopholes; they are express provisions congress has made to, for example, encourage charity.

Do you have any problem with billionaires making full use of the tax code as congress has written it? Would you, like me, instead favor a flat tax of something like 10% or 15% with zero deductions? A flat tax would ensure that everybody pays something.

The poor are helpless victims of a society we collectively created. They are not doing the complaining. It's the virtue signaling woke people who are beating their chests and stomping their feet and pointing the fingers at the wealthy accusing them of taking too much for themselves. It's jealousy and bitterness.
@sree251 What world are you living in? There are less successful people all over social media who want more given to them because they claim its not fair someone else has more.

I've seen too many people over come being raised poor to accept that our society dooms them to remain so their whole life. There are ways to get help getting an education or to learn a skilled trade, including military service if nothing else. All I mean is that they need to at least graduate HS, including VoTech options, then look for and attempt to take advantage of those opportunities. I do not accept that is beyond the capabilities of at least a portion of those people.

You talk like a parent berating a teenage offspring. Imagine an owl lecturing to all the creatures of the forest.
@sree251 Rather apt description considering the mindset behind the things you've said and apparently believe to be true.

@redredred The difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion is the thickness of a prison cell door.

Yes, I do have an issue with wealthy individuals and corporations using their power and influence to game the system in ways that are not accessible to the general population and clearly run contrary to the will and intention of an elected assembly. Revenue collection should be fully and properly funded, not undermined by the likes of Musk.
@SunshineGirl you do realize even with tax avoidance, the rich still pay the most over everyone else in taxes right?

Perception is reality. Mindset is belief, and belief is truth. Your truth against my truth.
@sree251 Absolute drivel .. but .. then .. then you lot think a man can be a woman and its fair for that man to compete in women's collegiate sports. That's not truth .. its mental derangement .. lunacy.

You are a man in a man's body. There are women in men's bodies. And those women in men's bodies want to compete in women's collegiate sports. You may harbor the belief that those women in men's bodies are lunatics, and that's your truth. You just can't look past a man's body to see the woman within because you don't have empathy for that woman.
