The General obviously had concerns about his race. I’m sure many others in the military did and do also. As an AF vet I was in when race relations was a major issue.
But in my time in, to the best of my recollection The head of the JCS never publicly espoused their personal views in their roles.
And many a top commander has been lowered in rank or separated from service for their outspoken or differing views from the CIC at the time of their military service.
