Trump Praises the Russian Army. Doesn't Mention the U.S. in Defeating Nazism.

“They have a big, powerful machine." Trump said of the Russians. “And they defeated Hitler and they defeated Napoleon. You know, they’ve been fighting a long time. They’ve done it before … but I think he would like to stop fighting.”

Russians at Waterloo. What an interesting concept. Sort of like British airports in the American colonies in 1776.

"Russians at Waterloo."

Try Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Russia, Becky. He lost most of his 600,000 men. The Grande Armée was never the same after that.

@Thinkerbell

That assumes Trump was thinking about the retreat from Moscow as opposed to the Battle of Waterloo. I'm assuming Trump probably either thinks the reteat from Moscow is what finished off Napoleon or that he thinks Waterloo is someplace near Minsk.

Quite amazing, those Russian Generals named Snow, Mud and Distance.

No, you assumed Trump meant Waterloo.

"Russians at Waterloo. What an interesting concept."

And Trump didn't say Russia was Napoleon's final defeat.

Any more than Stalingrad was Hitler's final defeat, but the German army was never the same after that, and could no longer hope to win WW2.

"Quite amazing, those Russian Generals named Snow, Mud and Distance."

Congrats, Becky... you finally got one right. 👍

But unfortunately for them, both Napoleon and Hitler underestimated those characteristics of the Russian terrain.

Trump didn't NOT say it, either. He was probably reacting to some quick tutoring Vladimir Putin gave him over the phone. 😉

But unfortunately for them, both Napoleon and Hitler underestimated those characteristics of the Russian terrain.

Now there's something we can agree on. 🙂

@Thinkerbell I might have known our favorite Putin apologist would weigh in.
