TARRIFFS...THOUGHTS???

I can see a negative impact on American Consumers.
What solution could be in place as to not cause a terrible impact, food, gas, hardline or softline merchandise?

All the economist say nothing good come from the tariff wars, nobody wins. Only time they are useful is to protect an industry vital to your national security and they should never be used on items you do not have the capacity to produce at home already. Otherwise it is just a tool for tax that leads to inflation.

@Subsumedpat "All economist" don't say that... And while a tariff can certainly be looked at as a corporate tax on foreign manufactures, what's wrong with that? Pepsi moved a large part of their production to Ireland to avoid corporate tax in America... I think in this scenario, tariffs are not just a good idea but a must. Last I heard Pepsi was looking to move their Ireland production back to America to avoid tariffs, but I'm sure that plan has changed since Ireland and Trump came to a mutual agreement on tariffs.

Like it or not, Trump is exercising the only option America has left.. Most of those complaining about tariffs today were running around calling for them 5,10, 15, 20 years ago... Including labor Unions. What changed their mind....

@MyGirlPhotoswell Wrong, we the consumers pay the tariff tax you can call it a corporate tax on forugn manfacturers but we pay it as consumer not some forign company or government. All this can ve chances with a stroke of the pen whjch creats incertainty. Pepsi is expanding its supply chain with facilities in the US and wlsewhere but have no intention of closing their Irish opperations.

@Subsumedpat Ummm, "we the consumer" pay the corporate tax on American corporations, too. That's not a secret. And that's right about Pepsi,,, they are re-establishing here to avoid the tariff... And yes, they'll likely keep their operation open in Ireland to avoid the Irish tariffs on their products made in America....

@Subsumedpat You are actually incorrect (although I totally support your position)..The one circumstance where tariffs do work is when a large, powerful economy uses them to bully a smaller, weaker partner in a poorer trading position to get an unfairly favourable deal. The Godfathers "offer they cant refuse".. Now when I put it that way, I am sure the lightbulb just went on and you realise why trump is such a fan of tariffs. They fit precisely with the way he has always done business.. But his mistake her is believing the US economy is the strong player it was last century. Every other nation has since learned that the Emperor has no clothes. And Americans are starting to wake up to it as well.😷
