Yeah, why worry about safety and health when permit requirements were suspended after 9/11 and high volumes of workers came down with respiratory and lung issues? We need to see photo op action. Besides, look how well cared for those 9/11 workers were as they needed medical care for the rest of their disabled lives. Let's just keep making the same mistakes. It's bound to turn out different this time.

Safety need not be sacrificed for speed or efficiency. We can do both. But it does require a surge of workers (and that costs money).

@beckyromero We can do both, but we often don't. We tend to embrace the fast and short-term solution for the views. And, do you know who the king of shortcuts to get the most views is? Yeah... Old Man Sex Pervert/Predator & Convicted Felon Insurrectionist-Cry-Baby-trump. He has no use for permits. Besides, didn't he invent injecting bleach "into the system" to clean everything out... and of course eliminating all testing and tracking? So, there is no need to worry... I suppose.

Exactly. We do the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

If FEMA can surge workers into an area after a disaster to help victims with immediate needs, why can't we surge the National Guard to help with debris removal? Get the Army Corps of Engineers in there to rebuild schools? Require insurance companies to automatically provide coverage for building code upgrades instead of having optional coverage?

A pet peeve of mine is that it takes forever to do s***. And we don't necessary make anything safer by wasting time for a piece of paper. Yes, get the permits. Do the inspections. But do it expeditiously.

Covid was another example with Trump's failure to implement the Defense Production Act that would have helped with the supply of N-95 masks and ventilators.

And the country sure the hell isn't better of because of the delays in the court system that Trump took advantage of.
