You are living at least two centuries behind when wealth was inherited rather than earned. You are the beneficiary of the technologies and innovations today's billionaires made possible. And remember that they pay the lion's shere of taxes.

It is inevitable that they will pay more tax in absolute terms, but even Warren Buffett declares that although he pays his taxes, his tax rate should be higher.

In absolute terms a 0.5% reduction in my tax rate and Elon Musk's tax rate are severely different amounts (assuming he pays taxes)

@newjaninev2 Warren doesn't live in California or New York. If he moved to either place from Nebraska,something he doesn't seem inclined to do, his taxes would be much higher due to state taxes. The top 1% pay 40 plus % of the federal income taxes and the top 10% pay ove 72%.
About 47% of the US population pay no federal income tax.
The question of how much taxation is optimal overall is not easy. But I think the current rates, which are likely to be extended are reasonably fair.
