The problem is I am having trouble believing Elon Musk would give up his earthling creature comforts to join the colonists who he would expect to pay him for the favour of living in, as Bill Maher noted, has no air, no water, not designed for humans, super-cold temperatures, and unfiltered radiation.

So, it is fun to think about, but it other than location for even further space travel, which in space doesn't mean as much as it does on earth, it doesn't offer any advantage. It is not like exploring and colonizing a new land on earth.
