Does Canada have term limits for prime ministers

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
No. As long as they get elected.

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M

@JimboSaturn and now the head money guy.
Lilymoon · F
No unfortunately 🙄
@Lilymoon We don't need term limits. Don't like Trudeau. Than offer a real alternative.

Term limits are anti democratic.

After two terms they start getting sloppy and thinking they're all that.
Two terms is plenty
@Lilymoon Than do something about it. It is called an election.

Term limits only benefit parties that nobody wants and can't win an election without an arbitrary rule giving them an advantage.

Term limits were introduced in the US for no other reason than the GOP could not win an election against FDR.

Term limits also make it nearly impossible for governments to do any long term planning. Because anything that takes longer than 4 years gets scrapped because it will just get cancelled if they lose a mid term. So nobody even bothers to try long term planning.

Also I think we have onely had 5 PMs in all of our history that served longer than 2 terms organically. Even Jean Chretien that was popular to complain about only stuck around for 2 years more than the typical 8 years of 2 terms.

The longest serving PM largely ended up in that position because of the 2 world wars.

Not that I know of.

I do know however, that United States Presidents have term limits, though.

From all the encyclopedias I read, I know that the late Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a total of 4 terms in office, thus making him the longest running of any President, past or present.

It was only after his death in 1945, that the rule was implemented that President should be allowed more than two four-year terms in office.
No. And term limits are anti democratic btw.

In a way. They are called "elections."
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
No, but in practice nobody really lasts too much longer than a decade.
JohnOlinger81 · 41-45, M
@CountScrofula What do you think of Trudeau

Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@JohnOlinger81 If you must know, I'm trying NOT to think of him.

And don't even ask me if I would do him, because the answer to that is HELL to the NO!

Doesn't seem like it....especially our U.S. Senate
