@SunshineGirl It could make Labour nervous about bi elections
PSuss1 · 56-60, M
@Dave1955 they'd have to lose more than 80 to lose their majority?

In less than 5 months they've enacted more positive change than the Tories managed in 14 years, the petition is just the usual RW headbangers (individuals and media) trying to stir up trouble online.

@Dave1955 They would need to lose 78 bye elections to lose their overall majority. The landslide victory in the general election gave them a clear mandate to govern decisively. Starmer may not be the most charismatic leader, but he is providing stability and consistency. He is also not afraid to take unpopular decisions in the national interest. This is what people voted for.

Regarding Farage:

" Reform claims it can save £50 billion a year by telling every government department to “slash wasteful spending, cut bureaucracy, improve efficiency and negotiate better value procurement”.

The above quote was from a UK disability website, and in my opinion, they are very biased, obviously belong to the Labour Party, and are so extremely fearful of change that it actually warps their ability to read, because they went on to do a great deal of fearmongering.

https://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/reform-uk-manifesto-suggests-huge-cuts-threats-to-disability-rights-and-risks-to-safety-of-benefit-claimants/

You'll note that they want to slash wasteful spending, and improve efficiency, while negotiating better value for their pounds.

Trump, in the United States, is trying to do the same thing using Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head up D.O.G.E., but there is absolutely no way he will cut Medicare or Medicaid, which are run respectively by the federal government, and by the STATES. Each state determines what it will spend on disability, food benefits, and welfare assistance.

In the UK the prime minister has already outlined reforms to disability, as of April 2024.

"*Government to consult on proposed reforms to disability benefits system to ensure benefits targeted at those who need it most
*Comes as number of people claiming disability benefits for mental health conditions has doubled since the pandemic
*Welfare package includes further measures to crack down on fraud and removing benefits entirely from long term unemployed who don’t accept a job"

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/disability-benefits-system-to-be-reviewed-as-pm-outlines-moral-mission-to-reform-welfare

If you have trouble interpreting what these bullet points mean, it was basically stated that the current PM wants people who CAN work, and who are not working, to work. It also stated that they wish to eliminate fraud and waste.

There won't be another general election until at least 2028.

If Farage has serious political aspirations he will need to start spending a bit more time in the UK and his Clacton constituency.
PSuss1 · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl Farage's political ambitions don't extend to constituency politics I'm afraid. He just saw Clacton as an opportunity to get himself into the HoC, so he can a) get more air time for his day to day grifting, and b) appear like a "real politician" to Trump and Musk, in the hope that they'll give him some money.

It's always about the money with Nige "man of the people" Farage 🤷🏻‍♂

@PSuss1 It would be amusing if someone started a recall petition in Clacton 🙂
PSuss1 · 56-60, M
The petition is a pathetic sideshow. The number signing has been boosted by FLOTUS pushing it out to her X followers, the vast majority of whom don't live in the UK or are bots 😂

The media will hype it but ultimately there's no election in the foreseeable unless a Labour PM (Starmer or anyone else the LP elect) goes to see the King and ask him to call one (not happening) or a vote of no confidence is passed by Parliament (i.e. half the Labour MPs vote for it).

You'll be fine for another 4.5 years ...and I suspect by then Trump and FLOTUS will have lost the support of the RW headbangers, with their inevitable failure to deliver on their promises 😀
