How significant is the recent escalation between NATO and Russia?

NATO is now allowing the use of American and British missiles in Russian territory. In September, Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer decided, after discussions, not to allow this. We can assume the reason is wanting to avoid escalation. Putin issued a very clear warning and they appeared to listen.

What has changed since then? It has only been two months. Russia continues to do well, which is not a change as Russian military has been doing well for over a year. Why is Biden, before he leaves office, allowing Ukraine to use these missiles? He knows what the potential consequences are. Starmer also knows what the consequences are. The deep state know the consequences. This can only be a way to try to sabotage Trump's presidency.

Do you think this escalation is significant? What do you think will happen?

It’s next to impossible to explain the concept of NATO to an isolationist loving MAGA supporter because the idea of helping another country that is under attack from a much bigger country goes against what it means to be an “isolationist”.

Putin will continue to threaten but as he has done for the last 3 years, very little will actually happen although all the MAGA isolationists will continue to get their panties in a knot but they wont actually do anything else because they are too self serving to be any use to anyone one.

If something does happen I would hope that the members of NATO function as one and send Pootin packing.

@justanothername NATO is unable to protect its member states. What is the point of it? It only exists to provoke Russia. It wants to do more, but it can't without causing nuclear war.

Keep dreaming.

@justanothername You want Americans to die in their wars?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SW-User It’s not unable, it will do what it was designed to do.

@Rolexeo In your case, Yes.

How is it going to defeat Russia without starting nuclear war?

@justanothername If I have to fight alongside you then I'm helping Russia

@SW-User I'm sorry people will try to dehumanize you for your political beliefs. I agree with you. What our country just did is likely to cause more death and destruction, not less. And that's both inside and outside Ukraine.

I have close friends over there. I care for them deeply and worry for them every day. Now, since the news, I have to worry a lot more.

I believe your heart is in the right place. Thank you for being brave enough to speak out against the backlash.

@SW-User Ukraine is not a member.

Russia started the war. Nobody is to blame but Russia
SW-User
@MethDozer I am aware.

Russia did not start the war. US ousted Viktor Yanukovych twice and in 2014, Russia had enough of what the anti-Russian entities in Washington and Ukraine were doing. The further escalation in 2022 would not have happened under a Trump government. Russia is fighting for its existence. All the US would like to do is weaken Russia, control Russia, and exploit Russia.
MethDozer · M
@SW-User Russia's existence is and never was in any danger. Nor was it being exploited.

It's just wishes of cold war grandiosity. A temper tantrum. How about Ukraine's right to exist?
SW-User
@MethDozer This is not about Ukraine's right to exist. Russia has no issue with Ukraine existing. It existed without any conflict before 2014. American interference (Orange Revolution in 2004, the 2014 ousting of Viktor Yanukovych for second time) has caused this war. If Russia failed to act, they would get rid of Putin and install a new government in Russia, one willing to do as it is told and allow US to exploit Russia's resources. US would have no more opposition and countries they bully would be on their own. America stands a lot to gain from a weak and submissive Russia.

@JimboSaturn OOOOHhh you are Russian lol! Well sorry but I want your country out of Ukraine and everywhere else. Putin is afraid of Ukraine and more countries joining NATO. His actions are only driving them to join NATO. Long live the Western democracies and freedom!!
MethDozer · M
@JimboSaturn And hilariously enough Ukraine had no shot of being accepted into NATO, even though Ukraine wanted to.

@justanothername Trying to explain to a braindead progressive that NATO was formed to be a Defensive alliance not an army to start wars where none existed before. There was no conflict between Russia and Ukraine before NATO got involved. Neo Con warmongers like you are a brainwashed lot that can't see the truth for the lies you tell yourself and the world.

@hippyjoe1955 You missed the bit where Russia invaded Ukraine. I think you might had had your head on your sss when that happened.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@justanothername You missed the bot about Ukrainians shelling and killing thousands of Ukrainians long before Russia tried to put a stop to the senseless killings. Want to know Eastern Ukraine's response to Russia's special military operation? WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG.
