I hate political conversations. I don't fully know why it annoys me

Maybe it's because I've never educated myself on politics. & Maybe part of that is because everyone thinks their opinions are absolute & aren't able to talk about things understandably. There always has to be "sides" to pick which means there's always arguments.

I'm not really the type to pick sides. People can be right about some things & wrong about others. What's good for some people, might not be good for other people. Fact of the matter is there's not a lot of "right" or "wrong" in politics. Everything affects everyone differently which I suppose is why democracy even exists in the first place.

I usually listen but I don't typically offer an opinion. I don't think I know enough but I also find it hard to wanna learn when political conversations just suck overall. I'm not glad to be a felon now but I'm glad nobody can guilt me for not voting... I'm not allowed to 🤷
I usually avoid it too. But I also observe it. In my heart I know what's going on recently is very wrong. I see lots of people just giving up. It's not like I have much faith in humanity either, but I will still stand up for kids, elderly, women, immigrants, disabled and the oppressed. I have to do what I can. It shouldn't be about politics though.

@MarbleMarvel same here.. I'm not trying to be oblivious or offer too many opinions. I just wanna observe & have real thoughts without having to argue over them. That seems to be a hard balance for most people though
Good observations.

As an entrepreneur, I long ago realized that POLITICS and RELIGION are two things I need to avoid commenting on. No matter what my opinion is, at least 50% of the time I will be "wrong." So I often find myself just saying "I see", and moving on.

@Threepio yeah I imagine as an entrepreneur you gotta stay on everyone's good side so I can see how you came to your conclusions 😅
You can become more knowledgeable. I've heard it said everything is political. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it does affect all of our lives.

@midnightrose yeah I can see the truth in that. Knowledge definitely can't hurt. I might not always wanna participate in the conversations but I still wanna be educated

I think we need to redefine what politics means.

Although I'll talk federal politics and all that shit with people, the politics that people can understand, relate to, and actually do shit about is the politics of working for a living and how to get the best life for ourselves with the tools available.

@CountScrofula I would actually go further and say that discussion of people in office who are going to change the country so drastically that it will literally destroy the country as we know it is not the same as talking about politics.

To provide a fictional example, because I am nerdy, imagine if right after the events in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, you were trying to gather support to form a resistance against Emperor Palpatine, because you know that his next step is to dissolve the galactic Senate and consolidate power in order to become absolute dictator of the entire galaxy. But every time you try to rally people to your cause, you get a bunch of "Oh, I don't talk politics."

Most people I've encountered don't want to discuss the issues or hear a conflicting view. They're often emotionally driven and descend into ad hominem attacks. Huge waste of time.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@uncalled4 kinda weird when people whip out the insults all because someone has a different opinion. People really take that stuff personally

@ChiefJustWalks Their egos are bruised. No idea why.
From one extreme to the other … where is the world’s ‘Happy Medium’ … there is no contentment just self serving insanity on both sides of the ocean.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@ThreeLittleBirds what was that from?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I feel like on a lot of issues, you're right. People assume that their opinions are definite facts, and a lot of them don't even bother showing a source for what they claim. You can easily state that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle on most issues.

There's a couple of them I would say I absolutely do have facts rather than opinions on, but I'm sure you wouldn't disagree with me on those issues, anyway.
