I never watch Fox News because I don't want to get my brain dirty, however this morning was an exception since I had awakened harboring dirty, lust-filled thoughts anyway, so I just clicked on Fox News.
I listened to a Fox News documentarist who described the changing landscape of politics globally. Who is changing the political landscape are those whom she referred to as "populists", which are not the traditional Party types such as Democrats and Republicans, Labor Party and Tories, Liberals and Conservatives.
Populists are people like Donald Trump and Boris Johnson. They are called populists because they derive their popularity by focusing their soul attention on the lowest common denominator in their society and make a political platform out of what bothers people the most, which is typically the stuff that is found among those at the lowest-end of any society, not those who dwell at the top end of society or anyone in the middle.
The problem with voting for someone who is a populist in any Election campaign is that they can NEVER deliver what they promise their faithful followers they can deliver to them.
They cannot deliver what they promise to deliver if Elected, because the answers to the problems the lower-end of society typically have, are not ever obtainable because their answers and solutions don't actually exist.
What ends up happening to populists, is that they get voted out of Office after four years, but only after everyone realizes that they were nothing but bullsh*t artists and snake oil salesmen from the outset.
Enter Boris Johnson, enter Donald J. Trump.

and at first I wanted to hear more about your 'dirty, lust filled thoughts'..
@atlantic59
...well, when I first awoke before sunrise, I thought I could feel the wedding band on someone's finger as he rested his open palm across the concave surface of my bare stomach as I laid there on my back, but then realized after a few moments that my finger tips had found my belly button and that I'd forgotten to remove my new navel piercing before I went to bed last night! 🫤

@swirlie Well put, though it was not the journalist you heard who coined the word "populist".
The very idea that politicians might address popular ideas and concerns....
They attract following from those who feel, rightly or wrongly, that the mainstream parties and leaders just do not address their concerns. Though as you say, the intractability of these problems, and how anyone might solve them, are not examined by either the orators or their followers.
