Weeks Before Election Day, Biden-Harris Admin Announces $4.5B in Student Loan Handouts

Sure enough, on Thursday, the Biden-Harris administration announced yet another round of student loan handouts. This time, they will be removing $4.5 billion in debt for more than 60,000 borrowers who work in public service.

The Department of Education said in a news release the relief came about from “significant fixes” to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The action brings the total loan forgiveness approved by President Biden to more than $175 billion for 4.8 million Americans, including $74 billion for more than one million borrowers through PSLF.

“When President Biden and I took office, only 7,000 people had ever been approved for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Today, I am proud to say that a record one million teachers, nurses, first responders, social workers, and other public service workers have received student debt cancelation,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a White House statement.

A White House announcement on Thursday morning put the total value of the handouts at $4.7 billion, but later adjusted it to $4.5 billion.

Harris later doubled down by adding, “Our Administration has forgiven over $170 billion in student debt for nearly five million people throughout the country — more than any Administration in history.”

You ever notice how kids who go to trade school don't need government handouts? Maybe it's because they actually learn something useful and have jobs.

@AbbeyRhode There are never any free rides on tuition for trade school grads either...because they vote Republican for the most part.
@AbbeyRhode Some years back
My fire dept. was evaluated by a fire protection engineer. Not a firefighter.
He concluded in his report, “ deficiencies “ Fair enough. But some of his comments irked a number of us.
We told him he knew Nothing about our job when we fought fires. Long story made short, we invited and did get him to go into a live training session. We geared him up, explained he’d be safe and literally opened a door to reality when the door was “‘popped” and the fire came roaring out over our heads. He balked, but other firefighters assured and encouraged him. He eventually operated the hose line and “ knocked the fire down”. He was humbled and told us , “
“ I never knew what you guys do!”

@AbbeyRhode Thank you very much that's where I got my education and a life in mid to large company jobs to show for it. No school loans either. I didn't get any handouts.
Joe is buying the votes of the generation of entitlement. The whiners who can't handle a 40 hour work week.

@soar2newhighs It's ridiculous when someone overseeing or in charge of a job has no idea what it entails. A person cannot legitimately criticize something they don't even understand.

@AbbeyRhode They never apply themselves and gain the knowledge experience gives which books fail to do.

@Gibbon A lot of them are just wasting time, taking ridiculous classes, and not really planning to work. They expect everything handed to them.

@AbbeyRhode Yes they are entitled and have no idea how they are going to pay for it later in life. Imagine the shock when they hit the day of no more handouts. They won't even have any corn flakes to cry in.
