Outrage as ASU ‘Stabber’ has Charges Lowered for Knife Attack on Fellow Classmate

A judge has dismissed attempted murder charges against an Arizona college student accused of a vicious knife attack on a classmate.

The incident, which occurred at Arizona State University’s West Valley campus, has left the victim’s family reeling and raised questions about justice in the face of violent crimes.

Daily Mail reported that 19-year-old Kaci Sloan was initially facing multiple charges for the September 19 attack on Mara Daffron, who is also 19.

The assault, described by witnesses as “unprovoked,” left Daffron requiring emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen and injuries to her chest and arm.

In a recent court hearing, however, two counts were dismissed, leaving Sloan to face the lesser charge of aggravated assault.

Court documents reveal that Sloan admitted to planning the assault the night before, even going so far as to place the knife in her backpack before heading to school.

She told investigators she had chosen Daffron as an “easier target” than her original intended victim, a veteran.

Sloan’s backpack contained handwritten letters addressed to family and friends, apologizing for what she was “about to commit.”

This evidence, along with Sloan’s admission of planning, paints a chilling picture of the events leading up to the attack.

Daily Mail noted that the victim, Mara Daffron, a sports business student described by peers as “bubbly and energetic,” is now recovering at home.

Her mother shared that Daffron initially tried to help Sloan when she tripped just before the attack, unaware of the danger she was in.

The incident has left Daffron traumatized, suffering from nightmares and unable to return to campus, per the outlet.

Navy veteran Matthew McCormick, hailed as a hero for his intervention, recounted the harrowing moments of the attack.

“I’ve never seen anything like this and I hope I never do again,” he stated, describing how he sprang into action to disarm Sloan and prevent further harm.

Despite the violent nature of her actions, Sloan’s background presents a stark contrast.

Social media posts show her enjoying a glamorous vacation in France, while her LinkedIn profile describes her as a “goal-oriented, communicative team player.”

She was a recipient of a $5,000 New American University Dean’s Award scholarship at ASU and had no previous criminal record.
