What's Going on in Oklahoma? And Is It Another Sign of Doom for Donald Trump?

In 1996 Bob Dole defeated Bill Clinton, 48%-40% (with H. Ross Perot receiving 11%)

In 2000 George W. Bush defeated Al Gore, 60%-38%.

In 2004 George W. Bush defeated John Kerry, 66%-34%.

In 2008 John McCain defeated Barack Obama, 66%-34%.

In 2012 Mitt Romney defeated Barack Obama, 66%-33%.

In 2016 Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, 65%-29%.

In 2020 Donald Trump defeated Joe Biden, 65%-32%.

But a SoonerPoll conducted in the last week of August has Vice President Harris cutting Trump's margin in 2020 in half: 56%-40%.

The last time a Democratic presidential candidate got 40% of the Oklahoma vote was Bill Clinton's popular and Electoral College landslide in 1996.

So what does all this mean actually?

@Asianpersuasion

It's a sign that support for Trump is fading in a number of red states, pushing Vice President Harris' popular support higher in the national polls.

It's a sign that the only reason Trump is close in the swing states is he is sacrificing some of the lead he has in some red states to pump his campaign funds into pretty much just the swing states.

@beckyromero I can't see her losing my the popular vote, i expect an over 10 millions n plurality, but, seriously worry about the electoral college which gives too much power to the smallest states.

@beckyromero The fact that the concerns of the people of 42 states don't matter to the candidates suggests a real need that the President be elected by popular vote.

@MoveAlong i totally agree, the electoral college is archaic. I was part of a giant compromise that led to the USA constitution being ratified. It is very unlikely that any amendment could pass changing the election into a popular vote.
