Politics - Struggling to stay on topic

Why do people struggle to stay on topic? I often see discussions about Harris where people immediately bring up Trump, even though the original question doesn’t mention him at all.

The same thing happens to the other side—someone says something about Trump, and suddenly Harris gets dragged into the conversation, even when she has nothing to do with the actual question.

It feels like more and more people are dodging the actual point, behaving like politicians instead of addressing the question or statement at hand. Many of y'all would benefit from going back to the basics, relearning how to respond directly and thoughtfully to the subject at hand. a lot of people are so freaking obsessed with this crap your loosing your ways of being open minded and critically thinking about things. Try staying on point. ✌

In a presidential election, the choice isn't among an infinity of candidates; it's between candidate A and candidate B (or a "protest" vote).

And so, one cannot consider the attributes of candidate B in isolation; it's always part of a comparison between candidates. And sure, both candidates are flawed. But we still have to compare them to pick the lesser of two evils.

There may be a few questions about attributes of candidate A that don't insinuate an agenda driven comparison with candidate B, but such questions are few and far between.
