Socialism at its finest

I work for a trucking company that has a terminal in Upstate New York . One of the new truck dealers has notified them that it is state law now that if a company wants to buy a new Desiel powered /! fossil fuel powered truck from them they MUST first purchase an electric truck before the sale of a Desiel / fossil fuel truck can be made . Now they’re telling us what kind of vehicle we must buy ?? That’s not right.

Buy trucks out of state, then register them in NY after.... if you even want to bother with registering them in NY at all from this point on. You might want to look into renting a mailbox in Pennslyvania as a out of state office so you can have PA plates on your truck. I've seen plenty of security companies operate out of rented mail boxes, why not a truck company- PA will accept your tax dollars.

@Dignaga Apparently, an EV truck has very heavy batteries in the region of 16,000 pounds. I wonder if the bureaucrats writing those assinie regulations have checked loading capacity of bridges in New York and the probability of heavy traffic and jams with EV trucks bringing down those bridges.

@sree251 Have you read the regulation? I posted a link where you can read it. Yes, truck weight is considered in registering trucks not only in New York, but all states.
@sree251 I am very opposed to purely electric vehicles meant for highway transportation of anything, they are deeply unethical. Best use is on a local property, or as a forklift, preferably in a warm climate.

That being said, I'm open to the idea of hybrids or alternative fuel sources, as long as they don't make it too difficult in terms of infrastructure to refuel or costly to maintain the vehicles.

Basically I don't want a scenerio where half the country is sitting in a tesla refueling station for a hour while the other half is desperately looking for a available spot to open up so they can sit for a hour. People mock me for wanting to live in a van, but electeic car owners are pretty much doing the same at refueling stations.

And yes, I know how the tech works, including the home chargers. Most people can't do that, they rent and park on the street. Only state set up for electric cars with enough plugs everywhere outsise where people park is Alaska, for keeping batteries warm all winter, and I doubt they want anything to do with a electric vehicle in very cold temperatures.
