The "you're the gender you're assigned at birth" folk is having a meltdown at an athlete for competing with the gender she was assigned at birth?

Now led by (no surprise) Joanne Rowling lol

So you're saying if you are incorrectly assigned the wrong gender at birth you have to remain that way?
Not right in the head if true.

@GeniUs I don't, they do - but now they suddenly have a problem with it.

@Elessar It's ok for people to moderate their point of view if they see an error in their argument, it's not a U turn.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@GeniUs They aren't moderating anything. They just wrongly assumed it was a MTF trans person, now that it's turned out it's a biological female from a country where gender transitioning is illegal, playing with the gender assigned at birth they're desperately trying to move the focus elsewhere.

@Elessar I don't know which athlete you're referring too on this occasion is she intersex? African countries have been less than successful at identifying intersex people at birth (see Semenya and although not identified I suspect Mutola). It's harsh to identify intersex people as rigidly male or female but they should not be allowed to compete against females at sport.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@GeniUs Khelif.

The point of my post isn't about whether intersex females should or should not compete in women's sport, but that the "you're the gender you're assigned at birth" radicals suddenly have a problem with someone who's born woman competing as a woman.

@Elessar Khelif has been identified as male, which means misgendered at birth. It's right to correct mistakes and not continue with them. It's ok for people to adapt their position to clarify their stance.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@GeniUs Not at all, she's not. The only entity that had a problem with her gender is the IBA, which is *surprise, surprise* a Russian organization.

Her home country, herself, the IOC, and pretty much everything else (minus for Russia and Russia sponsored or adjacent actors) identify her as a woman.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Elessar That's fair enough, I'd like to see what her biological passport shows and how frequently it has been updated.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@GeniUs Female, she's born female and gender transition is illegal in Algeria. It was clarified by Algeria itself and more recently the IOC.

@Elessar It identifies testosterone levels and other chemical imbalances that may be an issue for athletes.
