Alabama County Commission Dem Candidate Arrested on Voter Fraud Felony Charges

An Alabama Democratic candidate was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with seven felonies for voter fraud.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the arrest of Terry Andrew Heflin in a press release. The indictment accuses him of falsifying applications to vote absentee for several people. He then used those individual’s names to vote for himself by absentee ballot.

The 45-year-old is running in the District 5 of the Clay County Commission race.

The alleged crime occurred during the state’s primaries on Mar. 5. Heflin defeated his opponent in the primary by a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent, which equates to 141 votes to 98 votes.

Each count Heflin faces is a Class C felony, which is punishable by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.

Court records disclose that Heflin was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years to serve after pleading guilty in 2021 to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
