This shift could strain transatlantic relations as Europe adjusts to a diminished U.S. role in its security framework.

@Ontheroad Putin's Russia is a puny economy with a US$ 2 trillion GDP. The US's GDP is more than ten times bigger at US$23 trillion. Can't we take on Russian on our own without backup European allies? Besides, how is Russia a threat to us? Iran is a smaller power with less than US$500 billion GDP. Is the US a coward of what? Why do we need NATO allies. Trump is not afraid and wants to throw NATO out if they don't pay up for US protection. Trump can deal with Putin mano o mano.

As for China, how are the Chinese a threat? They have been making goods for us at rock bottom prices to feed their poor citizens.
