If Donald Trump would have been killed,how would a new candidate have been picked?

In the recent assassination attempt against Donald Trump,the former President was wounded ,but thankfully,not seriously injured.A bullet hit his ear,but if the assassins aim would have been better,that bullet might have gone through his head!If ,God forbid,he would have been killed,what is the exact process through which a new candidate would have been selected?Please give only serious answers:anything mocking Trump or any "Trump is Hitler"rhetoric will be promptly deleted.

@DavidT8899 Yes I have heard that nonsense from several sources and paid political commentators. You don't stage that. People were actually killed by errant bullets. Trump was very fortunate that the wind blew the bullet too far to the right to cause serious injury or death.

@carpediem True enough.Dont get me wrong:as much as I dispise Biden,I DON'T wish anything like what just happened on him.But if it did,can you imagine him responding with the raw courage and presence of mind that Trump displayed?
