Trump's cabinet scares me more than a Trump presidency

Given that 40 out of 44 of his previous cabinet members have refused to endorse him for president, and given his history of firing people that criticize him and replacing them with sycophants, looking out at the landscape of potential candidates is bleak.

I imagine the aggressively stupid Marjorie Taylor Greene, a dense sleazeball like Matt Gaetz, or a raging dumpster fire like Lauren Boebert will be elevated to high-ranking government positions. Maybe even unhinged nutjobs like Mike Lindell or Alex Jones could find their way into roles they're completely unqualified for.

But more concerning than that is the increasing likelihood of Russian assets making their way into the White House given Trump's close relation to Putin. Aside from being murderous war-criminals, the Kremlin has time and again chosen to support Trump and vice versa, which is one of the most dangerous conflicts of interest to ever face the United States.

Russia considers itself a global rival to the US, and there are ample accounts that they are trying to destabilize America through rampant misinformation and propaganda, strategic hacking, and influence campaigns targeting specific voting blocs (https://www.americanprogress.org/article/origins-russias-broad-political-assault-united-states/).

Trump has Trojan Horse written all over him and his supporters are filled with so much bile and animosity towards their fellow Americans that they are willing to sleep with the enemy just to feed their sense of self-righteousness.

Before dismissing these claims as alarmist or misguided, ask yourself this: what kind of leader is Trump given that 40 out of 44 of those who were chosen to serve under him, including his Vice President, are refusing the opportunity to work with him again?

Years ago my parents were in a dispute with a neighbor who was violating local neighborhood building ordinances. The violations were clear yet weren't that severe considering that others in the neighborhood had pushed right up against the same rules without crossing them. The real issue my parents had was that when confronted about the violation, the neighbor was a jerk and took a retaliatory approach. Had he been more neighborly, perhaps they could have agreed out of court, instead of spending countless thousands on lawyers with the result of the neighbor having to tear down the new addition to his house for violations of code.

I remember my dad advising me to not give jerks like that an inch, because they will exploit it and soon others will follow suit. The neighbor's behavior was exactly like Trump - do what the hell he wants and let others take him to court, and if he loses, retaliate and play the victim.

That advice stuck with me for decades and crossed my mind during the 2016 election. I would not vote for Trump no matter what his platform was because he is a jerk, and I don't want society to think that being a jerk gets you ahead.

The irony is that both of my parents voted for Trump, and the reason was somewhat sexist. Hillary held a bad image in their minds for not divorcing Bill after the Lewinsky affair. Somehow this made her weak in their minds. Yet Trump's infidelities were okay. There were other reasons, but basically it boiled down to them not trusting Hillary, even though they knew Trump was a grifter.
