The draft is a long process away, but once it gets to that point, it's only fair for women to be included as well in modern times.

@NerdyPotato What should be concerning is that Europe is talking about restoring the Draft as well.
The people in Congress are dead set on starting WW3.
I wonder what women think about this, and what their poll results would be like.
Do you think that the children of Congressional Representatives will be drafted, or do you think they will get deferments and conscientious objector status?

@DallasCowboysFan obviously not, rich people and politicians have always gotten out of serving. See Bush and Donny Bonespurs.

@DallasCowboysFan the world is turbulent indeed. So I hope Americans vote for considerate foreign policy and not for someone who just wants to give aggressors what they want to get rid of current tensions and is so trigger happy with nukes he wants to drop them into hurricanes.

@DallasCowboysFan Hello there Komrade Putin sympathizer. Congress is just doing what needs to be done to get Putin to give orders to remove his troops from Ukraine but of course we all know he won’t so further steps will be required.

@basilfawlty89 George Bush SR was a pilot in WW2. At 19 he was the youngest pilot to be commissioned in the Navy.
George Bush Jr was a pilot in the National Guard. That BS about him evading his duty in the NG is what got Dan Rather fired.
Trump has bonespurs and Bill Clinton had 4 deferments while he attended college at Oxford in England.

@DallasCowboysFan Dubya avoided the military by being in what was called the Champagne Bridge. Trump can't even remember which foot has bone spurs.
Politicians and the rich have a different set of laws to us.

@basilfawlty89 A lot of guys volunteered for the NG and Reserves. If you volunteered you had a choice of jobs and assignment.

@NerdyPotato Its strange one day they call him sleepy a day later woke and progressive

@bookerdana it's one of the many things the maga crowd can't make up their mind about. 🤷

@DallasCowboysFan Were the children of politicians, when drafted, ever put in a position of risk without asking for it? As for women: Yes, drafting.... but (likely) the same rules will be applied - put women in admin and supply roles so they get protection.
On the cultural/sexual side: Do you want a pregnant woman on the battlefield (or: ha ah - a menopausal one). Some poll evaluations (past, not current) indicate that when there are shortages of men to fight that woman always would be willingly take their places. Hooray for those women who would. Hooray too for those women who would rather support the cause from home and give comfort to the men who return. My mom 'fought' WW2 by building ships. My aunt 'fought' by machining shells for navy guns.

The truth is, Dan Rather was factually correct.
One of the many dis-qualifying conditions for becoming drafted (with a small 'd', not capitalized 'D') is if you are enrolled in college or university at the time of the draft, which is called 'service deferment', meaning you're officially unavailable for active duty until you get out of college years down the road.
Another dis-qualifying condition for becoming drafted is if you voluntarily join the National Guard which means you stay in the USA and offer you military-like services domestically.
The fact that Republican George W. Bush joined the National Guard was in fact playing by the rules the US government had set for draft legislation, which means Bush was able to avoid active military service as a result, so Dan Rather was correct in saying this.
Where Dan Rather was incorrect in saying this however, was announcing it on National TV without authorization, that is all and this is the real reason that Dan Rather got fired.

@SandWitch There were hundreds of thousands of people that volunteered for the NG to avoid Vietnam. But there were Reserve and NG units that went overseas as well. If you received your draft notice and you showed up before the deadline, you were considered a. volunteer and you would get an easier assignment. But George Bush and many others did not do anything wrong , they just played by the rules that existed. At least he was in the military, unlike Bill Clinton that had 4 deferments while he was in college and then the war was over.

@JollyRoger Women in the military are discharged once they test positive for pregnancy if that is what they want.
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@DallasCowboysFan That seems reasonable. I presume they are offered a pension if they have accrued pensionable time?
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
@JollyRoger Once you reach 18 years you basically can't be kicked out of the Army unless you get courtmartialed. But, if it is medically related you can receive a pension anytime. Pregnancy is not a disability but if you had 18 years and became pregnant, they would allow you to get out with a pension.
